Vincent van Gogh is likely the most famous artist in the world. His painting "Starry Night" is one of the most recognizable images globally. It's astonishing that he didn't realize his talent until he was twenty and had no ambition to become an artist. Moving to Paris in 1886 and encountering "modern" art (later classified as Impressionism) inspired him to develop his unique style.

Vincent had a particular affinity for the color yellow and sunflowers. It's believed these brought him comfort as he battled mental illness. Van Gogh aspired to be known as the sunflower painter, leading him to create 11 sunflower paintings. His roommate and renowned artist Paul Gauguin even painted a portrait of Vincent painting sunflowers. After Van Gogh's death, his friends carried sunflowers to his funeral.

Although his painting career lasted only 10 years, Van Gogh produced over 2000 works that are now admired by people in museums worldwide.
