Claude Monet, who built a Japanese-style bridge in his garden in the French countryside, painted over 250 paintings, and possessed an unusual skill for capturing fleeting plays of light and color, was a creative individual. He moved away from classical painting techniques, painting with quick brushstrokes and aiming to capture how the world looked at that moment. Such images, called impressions, use colors instead of lines. This method allowed Monet to paint several views of the same scene while observing the changing light throughout the day. Monet painted his Japanese-style bridge at least 18 times. While several of Monet's paintings are considered iconic and highly valuable in the art world, Monet considered his garden his greatest masterpiece.
